Indian Monsoon Slowed Through August 10WASHINGTON - Aug 17/05 - SNS -- Monsoon activity diminished in India during the week ending August 10, with only 16 of the 36 weather subdivisions receiving normal or above normal rainfall compared with 19 a week ago, reports the U.S. agricultural attache for the country. For the country as a whole, the week's rain was 25% below normal. Weather subdivisions, which received significantly below normal rains were West Madhya Pradesh, East and West Rajasthan, Saurashtra, West Uttar Pradesh, Jharkand, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Kerala, East Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, and Marathawada, which include several major rice, soybean, and coarse grain growing areas.
