North American Cattle Inventory Up 1%WASHINGTON - Aug 17/05 - SNS -- All cattle and calves in the U. S. and Canada combined totaled 121.8 million head on July 1, 2005, up 1% from a year ago, according to a joint report from the USDA and Statistics Canada. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 49.4 million head, was up 1% from a year ago. All cattle and calves in the United States as of July 1, 2005 totaled 104.5 million head, 1% above the 103.6 million on July 1, 2004 and 1% above the 103.9 million two years ago. All cattle and calves in Canada as of July 1, 2005, totaled 17.3 million head, up 3% from the 16.8 million on July 1, 2004, and 10% above the 15.7 million two years ago.
