Canada Avoids Killing FrostVANCOUVER - Aug 15/05 - SNS -- Frost warnings issued Friday did not result in killing frosts over the weekend, according to reports from Environment Canada and other regional sources. Temperatures in Saskatchewan came remarkably close to zero, with temperatures falling well below seasonal lows over the weekend. Regina and Saskatoon were 9 degrees below normal at a Saturday low of 2 degrees Celsius, while Rosetown reported a low of zero. In Alberta, temperatures dropped to -1 C around Edmonton and Calgary Saturday morning, but did not drop into the range of a killing frost -- between -3 or -4 C. The weekend remained cool, but there was enough cloud cover to prevent frost. There are also reports of frost in parts of Montana over the weekend. A cold air mass from Canada plunged temperatures in Kalispell to a record low of 34 degrees Fahrenheit and Olney to a record low 27 F. Forecasters continue to see cool temperatures, but believe only northern Saskatchewan is at risk of frost in the next 24 hours.
