Modest Gains in Australian Auction Sales NumbersSYDNEY - Aug 5/05 - SNS -- Livestock sold through online auctions managed by AuctionsPlus Pty Ltd posted modest gains during the past week as advances in the number of sheep and lambs sold offset declines in cattle offerings. Throughput for the week totalled 32,313 sheep and lambs, up from 30,842 head the previous week, for a second week of rising numbers. The number of cattle put through the company's auctions totalled 2,300, compared to 2,702 last week, ending three weeks of increased activity. "Throughputs were static this week . . . The markets on the other hand were anything but static," AuctionsPlus's Dean Lemmich said. "Passed in rates were high for both species all week and for varying reasons."
