Rail Rates to Mexico RiseWASHINGTON - Jul 14/05 - SNS -- The cost of transporting grain from the United States to Mexico by water ended up declining during the first quarter of 2005 even as rail costs rose, according to the USDA's Transportation and Marketing Programs/Transportation Services Branch weekly Grain Transportation Report. Corn and soybean transportation costs by water routes from Illinois to Guadalajara, Mexico, decreased 5%, while transportation costs for Kansas wheat fell almost 7%. Higher rail rates resulted in slightly higher land route grain transportation costs to Guadalajara. Corn and soybean transportation costs increased about 1%, while those for wheat increased just over 5% compared with 4th quarter 2004.
