World Cotton Harvest IncreasedWASHINGTON - Jul 12/05 - SNS -- World cotton production for the 2005-06 season is now expected to reach 108.56 million 480 pound bales, up 2.3% from last month's forecast, but down almost 11 million bales from 2004-05, according to the latest report from the USDA's World Agricultural Outlook Board. The increase in production has combined with a major jump in opening stocks from 48.74 million to 51.13 million bales to force an 11% increase in projected ending stocks a year hence to 48.95 million bales. "Approximately half of the increase is attributable to higher beginning stocks resulting from adjustments to the historical China balance sheet beginning in 1994-95 these adjustments are based mainly on recent information from Chinese officials," the USDA explained.
