U.S. Field Pea Area Tops 804,000 AcresWASHINGTON - Jul 12/05 - SNS -- Field pea seedings in the United States have soared 52% above last year to an estimated 804,000 acres in the five main producing states, according to the latest USDA crop report. Harvested area is forecast at 772,000 acres, also up 52% from 2004. It is important to note that production outside the five states covered by the USDA is also rising rapidly and, like production in those states, grower interest in peas is advancing at a faster rate than the processors and exporters are adjusting. The net result is the USDA number is significantly higher than expected by many market participants and the actual seeded area in the United States is unknowable at this time.
