General Hike in Dairy Food OutputWASHINGTON - Jul 1/05 - SNS -- The quantity of dairy products manufactured in the United States posted an overall increase in May, led higher by cheese, butter and frozen products, judging from the latest USDA data. Total cheese output (excluding cottage cheese) was 782 million pounds, 4.0% above May 2004 and 3.4% above April 2005. American type cheese production totaled 333 million pounds, 0.3% above May 2004 and 1.5% above April 2005. Butter production was 120 million pounds in May, 9.2% above May 2004 and 4.0% above April 2005. Frozen dessert: (comparisons with May 2004): Ice cream, Regular (hard) --- 78.4 million gallons, up 5.4%; Ice cream, Lowfat (total) --- 36.2 million gallons, down 6.8%; Ice cream, Nonfat (hard) --- 1.82 million gallons, up 3.8%; Sherbet (hard) --- 4.92 million gallons, up 4.3%; and Frozen Yogurt (total) --- 6.13 million gallons, down slightly.
