Markets Surprised by Canada's Chickpea Area
VANCOUVER - Jun 24/05 - SNS -- Several markets participants were surprised by Statistics Canada's seeded area estimates for the crop, which showed it advanced from 115,000 to 190,000 acres this year.
The federal agency's estimates are always disputed by some market participants, but markets generally have confidence in them because of the large survey base contacted. In this case, around 29,000 farmers across Canada were surveyed, representing a significant percentage of total commercial farmers in the country.
