Modest Improvement in Turkey HatcheryWASHINGTON - Jun 14/05 - SNS -- Turkey hatchery activity picked up slightly in the United States as of June 1, according to the latest USDA data. Turkey eggs in incubators on June 1, 2005, in the United States totaled 30.2 million, 1% above June 1 a year ago. Eggs in incubators were 3% above the May 1, 2005 total of 29.3 million eggs. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central up 7% at 4,841,000 eggs; West North Central up 2% at 11,405,000; North and South Atlantic up 2% at 8,937,000; South Central down 8% at 2,269,000; and West down 10% at 2,708,000 eggs in incubators. The 23.7 million poults placed during May 2005 in the United States were up slightly from the number placed during the same month a year ago. Placements were up 1% from April 2005.
