Australian Meat Output SlipsSYDNEY - Jun 1/05 - SNS -- Australia livestock slaughter activity continued to increase through April, posting its fourth month over month increase in the total number of animals slaughtered, though meat production was down slightly from March. During the month, a total of 3.82 million animals were slaughtered, resulting in the production of 276,790 metric tons (MT) of meat, according to the latest monthly data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). "The trend estimate for beef production rose for the fifth consecutive month, to 183,500 MT. This was the highest figure recorded since records began in July 1979," ABS noted. " The trend estimate for cattle slaughterings rose for the fourth consecutive month, to 683,800. This was the highest figure recorded since January 2003.
