Manitoba Details Slaughter Investment SchemeWINNIPEG - May 190/05 - SNS -- Manitoba's agriculture minister, Rosann Wowchuk, detailed the province's $3-million plan designed to increase slaughter capacity in Manitoba. The scheme covers feasibility studies, business planning, construction, marketing, and tracking and tracing of livestock. "Following discussions with the meat processing industry, we have tailored our plan to deal with the needs of interested investors so they can move forward with expansion plans to ensure more Manitoba meat is processed in the province," the minister said. Successful applicants are eligible for funding including: - up to 10% of the capital costs for new or existing facilities to upgrade or construct to federally-inspected standards to a maximum of $2 million per applicant, - up to 20% of capital costs for increasing slaughter at provincially-inspected plants to a maximum of $200,000 per applicant, and - up to 90% of the costs of feasibility studies for operators who want to convert provincially licensed facilities to federal standards to a maximum of $45,000 per study and $180,000 per applicant.
