Cotton Ginnings Jump in 2004WASHINGTON - May 12/05 - SNS -- A total of 22.6 million running bales were ginned during the 2004 season, 27% above 2003's ginnings of 17.7 million running bales, according to the USDA. A 9% increase in acres harvested and a 125-pound yield per acre increase from last season contributed to the higher ginnings. There were 896 active cotton gins during the 2004 season, up from the 890 that operated in 2003.
