Specialty Crop Usage Levels DisappointVANCOUVER - May 6/05 - SNS -- Disappearance of Canada's major specialty crops has not been as brisk during the first quarter of the 2005 calendar year as in the past, with the result stocks in all positions have expanded relative to prior years. On December 31, combined stocks of peas, lentils, canary, mustard seed and sunflower were 480,000 metric tons (MT) greater than at any time in the past. Unfortunately, as of March 31, the spread had widened to 914,000 MT because inferred usage is at its lowest level in the five years Statistics Canada has provided stocks in all positions data for specialty crops.
