Oil Content of Canadian Mustard UpWINNIPEG - Mar 22/05 - SNS -- Canadian mustard seed harvested in 2004 contained more oil and less protein on average than the previous crop, according to the Canadian Grain Commission's (CGC) final report on the quality of last year's crop. The results are consistent with experiences with other oilseeds. The Grain Research Laboratory (GRL) long-term harvest survey results show that cool, wet growing conditions tend to produce an oilseed crop with higher oil contents and iodine values, but lower protein contents. Research also shows that glucosinolate levels may decrease when Brassica crops are grown under cool, wet conditions.
