CN Strike or Lock-Out Now PossibleTORONTO - Mar 15/05 - SNS -- CN Rail and two of its unions are now in a position to strike or lock-out employees, provided at least 72 hours notice is given. The company says this stems from a Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) decision responding to the Federal Labor Minister's referral regarding maintenance of essential services at CN in Canada. CN said it remains optimistic new agreements can be reached with the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) without labor disruption. The company said it is talking to the unions about dates to resume bargaining. The TCRC represents 1,750 locomotive engineers, and the IBEW 630 signals and communications employees. However, the company said even if there is a strike or lock-out, it will maintain freight operations.
