Jeter Promotes Sunflower Seeds

NEW YORK - Mar 10/05 - SNS -- Confectionary sunflower usage will be a modest, unexpected boost during the 2005 baseball season with Yankee's shortstop Derek Jeter teaming up with David Seeds to donate product to organizations helping children in the United States.

For every home run hit during the 2005 regular season, David Seed will donate a case of sunflower seeds or a comparable snack to Kids Cafe -– a program run by America's Second Harvest -- The Nation's Food Bank Network. Last year, there were 5,451 home runs hit during the season.

When Jeter hits a home run, David Seed will donate 100 cases of seeds to Kids Cafe and to Turn 2 Foundation signature programs in New York City, West Michigan and Tampa, Florida.

To recognize his commitment to nutritious snacking, David Seed's unveiled a 10-foot tall replica of its new Derek Jeter Sunflower Seed bag, which features a spitting image of the All-Star shortstop. Jeter was also presented with the first-ever David Seed Good Seed award. This award goes to an individual who dedicates his/her time to helping others achieve a healthy, wholesome and responsible lifestyle.

Sunflower seeds are an excellent source of vitamin E, are high in protein and are great for a low carb lifestyle. Sunflower seeds naturally contain a high amount of vitamin E (7.4 mg per 1 oz serving), an important nutrient which is currently very low in both children's and adults' diets.
