Poultry Litter PactNEW YORK - Mar 8/05 - SNS -- Regenerated Resources LLC has reached an agreement with Tyson Foods and Simmons Foods to convert their poultry litter into commercial fertilizer products sold under the Organic-Gro brand. The company describes the product as an all natural alternative to the synthetic chemical fertilizers often used on private and public lawns. "Poultry litter has been used as a fertilizer in agriculture for decades since it contains organic nutrients that are beneficial for crops and forage," John Tyson, chairman and chief executive officer of Tyson Foods, said. Mark Simmons, chairman of Simmons Foods, added, "It's another way we can add value to one of the byproducts of our business, while reducing excess litter supplies that cannot be land applied locally." Tyson Foods and Simmons Food have invested an "undisclosed amount of money in this project" the companies said in a joint news release. The project will use a portion of the over 60,000 tons of poultry litter produced annually at the over 600 chicken houses managed by the companies in the northwest Arkansas, southwest Missouri and northeast Oklahoma region.
