Dairy Product Output lips From DecemberWASHINGTON - Mar 4/05 - SNS -- Dairy product output in the United States started the 12004 calendar year by slipping below December's output levels as reduced cheese output offset gains in butter, judging from the latest USDA data. Total cheese output (excluding cottage cheese) was 754 million pounds, 2.4% above January 2004 but 2.4% below December 2004. American type cheese production totaled 322 million pounds, 0.1% above January 2004 but 0.6% below December 2004. Butter production was 126 million pounds in January, 4.6% below January 2004 but 9.8% above December 2004. Frozen dessert: (comparisons with January 2004): Ice cream, Regular (hard) --- 60.4 million gallons, up 2.1%; Ice cream, Lowfat (total) --- 26.8 million gallons, up 3.2%; Ice cream, Nonfat (hard) --- 1.19 million gallons, down 16.6%; Sherbet (hard) --- 4.19 million gallons, up 11.4%; and Frozen Yogurt (total) --- 4.36 million gallons, down 1.0%.
