EPA Okays Fungicide for ND LentilsFARGO - Mar 2/05 - SNS -- A request by North Dakota to allow its lentil producers use the fungicides LSP flowable fungicide and Mertect 340-F as a seed treatment for control of Ascochyta blight was approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The exemption allows a single application of either Gustafson LSP or Mertect 340-F directly to the seed in a mixing chamber in the processor’s seed-treating equipment. Manual seed treatment is prohibited under this exemption. Applicators must follow all directions, restrictions, and precautions on the EPA-registered product labels. Treated seed must be properly labeled as such, and may not be used for food, feed, or oil processing. Livestock may not be fed or grazed on treated areas for four weeks after planting. A maximum amount of seed sufficient to plant 30,000 acres may be treated. The exemption expires June 1, 2005.
