Injunction Against Canadian Beef ImportsBILLINGS - Mar 205 - SNS -- A federal court judge here imposed a temporary injunction on USDA plans to open the border to imports of Canadian live cattle under 30 months of age on March 7. U.S. District Court Judge Richard Cebull granted the injunction until the lawsuit against the USDA by the Ranchers-Cattlemen Action Legal Fund, United Stockgrowers of America (R-CALF USA) can be considered by the federal court. Arguing before the judge, lawyers for R-CALF said reopening the border would cause financial harm to U.S. producers. Additionally, they asserted that Canada doesn't properly test its animals for bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).
