Hog Producers Urged to Forward PriceVANCOUVER - Mar 1/05 - SNS -- Analysts at Purdue University are urging hog producers to consider forward pricing 2005 production to take advantage of current values because of a strong possibility markets will trend lower the balance of the year. Chris Hurt, Extension Economist, Purdue University, argues, "While no one knows how market events will unfold, there are several bearish clouds that producers need to consider." He believes rising production will exert supply side pressure on markets; while the prospective re-opening of the U.S. border to live cattle imports from Canada in march 7 will affect demand by increasing supplies of competing meat products on U.S. markets.
