South Africa Optimistic Despite Smaller Bean CropPRETORIA - Feb 21/05 - SNS -- The first production forecast for summer beans and final estimate for winter lupin output in South Africa confirms this year's crops will decline from last season. The South African Grain Information Service (SAGIS) left its winter lupin production estimate unchanged at 3,950 metric tons (MT), and pegged this year's summer dry edible bean crop at 69,740 MT, down from 80,000 MT last year. The smaller bean harvest reflects a decline in seeded area from 56,200 to 49,300 hectares and a forecast reduction in average yields from 1,423 kilograms per hectare to 1,220 kg.
