India Could Boost Pulse ImportsWASHINGTON - Feb 18/05 - SNS -- India has the potential to boost pulse imports in 2005-06 to as much as two million metric tons (MT) if pulse production declines to around 14 million MT from 15.2 million in 2004-05, argues the U.S. agricultural attache for the country. "Erratic monsoon rains last summer, and inadequate soil moisture for the planting of the rabi season pulse crops in the major producing state of Rajasthan, were factors responsible for the lower production," the agricultural attache said in a recent report on India's pulse sector.
