U.S. Milk Output Rises 1.3% in JanuaryWASHINGTON - Feb 17/05 - SNS -- Milk production in the 23 major States in the United States totaled 13.2 billion pounds in January, up 1.3% from January 2004, according to the USDA. December production, at 13.0 billion pounds, was up 1.2% from December 2003. Production per cow in the 23 major States averaged 1,637 pounds for January, 13 pounds above January 2004. The number of cows on farms in the 23 major States was 8.08 million head, 38,000 head more than January 2004, but 15,000 head less than December 2004.
