U.S. and Canadian Cattle Inventory UpWASHINGTON - Feb 17/05 - SNS -- Combined cattle inventories in Canada and the United States are up 1% over last year at 110.9 million head on January 1, 2005, reports the USDA. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 48.4 million head, was up 1% from a year ago. All cattle and calves in the United States as of January 1, 2005, totaled 95.8 million head, 1% above the 94.9 million on January 1, 2004 and slightly below the 96.1 million two years ago. All cattle and calves in Canada as of January 1, 2005, totaled 15.1 million head, up 3% from the 14.7 million on January 1, 2004, and 12% above the 13.5 million two years ago. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 6.4 million, was up 5% from the 6.1 million on January 1, 2004, and 10% above the 5.8 million from two years ago.
