USDA Leaves Sugarcane Forecast UnchangedWASHINGTON - Feb 9/05 - SNS -- Production of sugarcane for sugar and seed in 2004 is forecast at 29.3 million tons, unchanged from last month but 13% below 2003, according to the USDA's latest crop production estimates. Area harvested and to be harvested for sugar and seed for the 2004 crop year, at 952,100 acres, is 4% less than last year's harvested area. Yield is forecast at 30.8 tons per acre, the same as January but 3.3 tons below the 2003 crop. In Florida, harvest remained active throughout January. However, acreage, yield, and production forecasts for the State are unchanged from the last month. Estimates for Hawaii, Louisiana, and Texas are carried forward from January.
