India Develops New Pearl MilletNEW DELHI - Feb 7/05 - SNS -- Plant breeders at Haryana Agricultural University and the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics have created a pearl millet hybrid resistant to downy mildew disease. Called HHB 67-2, it is intended for cultivation in Haryana and Rajasthan, where downy mildew disease outbreaks can destroy up to 30% of the pearl millet crop. Like HHB 67, the variety matures quickly in around 65 days, providing an opportunity for double cropping.
