South African Fruit Output DipsWASHINGTON - Jan 19/05 - SNS -- Deciduous fruit production is expected to reach 1.384 million metric tons (MT) in South Africa this year, down 1.3% from 2004 on account of severe drought in major producing regions in the Western Cape in December. Drought affected mainly the Berg and Hex River, Ceres, Wolsley and Tubalch areas, noted the U.S. agricultural attache for the South Africa in a report on the fresh fruit sector.
