Turkey Hatchery Starts Year DownWASHINGTON - Jan 13/05 - SNS -- Turkey hatchery activity started 2005 down from the levels achieved one year earlier, reports the USDA. Turkey eggs in incubators on January 1, 2005, in the United States totaled 28.2 million, 1% below January 1 a year ago. Eggs in incubators were 2% above the December 1, 2004 total of 27.7 million eggs. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central down 2% at 4,469,000 eggs; West North Central up 1% at 10,620,000; North and South Atlantic down 3% at 8,448,000; South Central down 4% at 2,249,000; and West up 8% at 2,413,000 eggs in incubators.
