Safflower Output Down Sharply in 2004WASHINGTON - Jan 12/05 - SNS -- Production of minor oilseeds dropped sharply in the United States in 2004 on account of a steep drop in the size of the safflower and rapeseed crops, according to the USDA's 2004 annual crop production summary. Safflower production, at 176 million pounds, decreased 36% from 2003. Safflower growers planted an estimated 175,000 acres, a decrease of 21% from 2003, while harvested area is estimated at 159,000 acres, down 25% from the previous year.
