USDA Lifts Sugarbeet EstimateWASHINGTON - Jan 12/05 - SNS -- Sugarbeet production is estimated at 29.9 million tons, 1% above the November 1 forecast but 3% below last year's production, according to the USDA's 2004 annual crop production summary. Growers in the 12 sugarbeet-producing States harvested 1.31 million acres, 1% below the November estimate and 3% below last year's 1.35 million acres. Yield is estimated at 22.9 tons per acre, 0.5 ton above November and 0.1 ton above the 2003 yield. Sugarbeet planting progressed well ahead of normal in the 4 major sugarbeet-producing States, due to warm weather in most growing areas.
