Apple, Pear Crops Up in AustraliaWASHINGTON - Jan 22/05 - SNS -- Australia's apple and pear crops should rise sharply in 2005 in response to excellent precipitation early in the growing season and improved irrigation water supplies in key fruit growing areas -- though production will remain at the country's long term averages. Based on current conditions, apple production is expected to jump from 2.5 million to 3 million metric tons (MT); while the 2005 pear harvest advances from 141,000 MT in 2004 to a forecast 150,000 MT this year.
