UK Losing Marrowfat Market InitiativeLONDON - Dec 23/04 - SNS -- The strength of the pound sterling in recent months is having a profound impact on the country's ability to compete on a price basis with marrowfat pea suppliers in other parts of the world, especially Canada, argues the British Edible Pulse Association (BEPA). "Currency values are probably the dominant factor this month. With pulse trading, the weakness of the Canadian dollar makes their marrowfats and large blues (green peas) competitive in many markets including, for the latter, some European human consumption uses previously serviced by UK production," BEPA said.
