U.S. Hops Output Rises 1%WASHINGTON - Dec 17/04 - SNS -- This year's hop production in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington totaled 55.2 million pounds, up 1% from the 2003 crop of 54.6 million pounds, and 5% below the 2002 production of 58.3 million pounds, according to the USDA's annual report on the commodity. Washington's 2004 production increased 1%. Production in Idaho and Oregon dropped 2% and 8%, respectively. Acreage declined in all three states in 2004. Washington showed a 1% acreage decrease, Idaho was down 5% and Oregon was down 11%. However, yields improved over a year ago in all three states. Washington, with 2,137 pounds per acre, was up 87 pounds from last year. In Idaho, yields averaged 1,588 pounds per acre, 52 pounds more than a year ago.
