Manitoba Sees Massive Insurance ClaimsWINNIPEG - Nov 24/04 - SNS -- Manitoba Crop Insurance Corporation (MCIC) is receiving a nearly unprecedented number of claims from farmers this year, according to provincial agriculture minister Rosann Wowchuk. This has resulted in interim crop insurance payments exceeding $32 million, with at least 9,000 post harvest claims still expected to be received this year. Excess moisture insurance claims totalling $24.6 million and $7.8 million for reseeding and early crop losses have already been finalized. "To help producers with current cash needs, the Manitoba Crop Insurance Corporation (MCIC) will issue advance claim payments using information from producers' harvested production reports," said Wowchuk. "The advances are an interim measure until the claims can be fully assessed, with adjustments being made through final payments at a later date."
