Clearfield Wheat Available in Canada in 2005WINNIPEG - Nov 16/04 - SNS -- Agricore United and the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool will start marketing so-called "Clearfield" wheat in 2005. The red spring milling wheat variety, CDC Imagine, was bred to tolerate BASF's Adrenalin herbicide, which is supposed to control wild oats, green foxtail, southern grasses such as persian darnel or barnyard grass, volunteer barley and volunteer wheat which is not resistant to the herbicide. Scott Chapman, Clearfield Business Manager for BASF Canada, said CDC Imagine is "a medium maturity variety and is characterized by good lodging resistance, above average protein and good yield potential." Clearfield wheat was developed using traditional plant breeding methods and is recognized both domestically and internationally as a non-GMO crop.
