67% Jump in U.S. Lentil HarvestWASHINGTON - Nov 12/04 - SNS -- Lentil production in the United States is estimated at 4.08 million cwt (100 pound units) or 185,249 metric tons (MT), up 67% from last year, according to the USDA's latest crop production estimates. This year's estimates also signal an important and dramatic shift in lentil production patterns in the United States. North Dakota emerged as the most important lentil producing state in the United States; while production in Montana and North Dakota was larger than output in Washington state and Idaho -- the traditional lentil producing region in the United States.
