Limited Thunder Bay Shipping ActivityWINNIPEG - Oct 26/04 - SNS -- Specialty crop clearances at the port of Thunder Bay were limited during the first two months of the current marketing year, totalling just 26,746 metric tons (MT) of field peas and soybeans, compared to 31,789 MT one year earlier. Slower shipping activity is directly related to the slow pace of this year's harvest. By the end of August only 11% of the Saskatchewan's field pea crop and 7% of the lentils and 3% of the mustard had been harvested; compared to 94% of the peas and 92% of the lentils by the end of August in 2003. Consequently, virtually all specialty crops shipped in August and a portion of product shipped in September was from the carry-over and not from the harvest.
