Barley Board Enters Fertilizer BusinessSYDNEY - Oct 25/04 - SNS -- Australia's barley marketing board, ABB Grain Ltd., has agreed to buy the fertilizer business of Direct Fertilizers Limited (DFL) and Direct Fertilizers International Pty Ltd (together Direct). The purchase of the business is subject to a number of conditions precedent including the approval of DFL’s shareholders and the satisfactory completion of ABB’s due diligence. ABB managing director Michael Iwaniw said ABB already imported fertilizer on Direct’s behalf and had been the major supplier to Direct since its inception in 1996. "Direct's business has been growing consistently since its inception, with it now supplying about 85,000 (metric) tons of fertilizers to growers across South Australia, Victoria and into southern New South Wales."
