U.S. Dominates S. Korea Seed MarketSEOUL - Oct 20/04 - SNS -- The United States remains the most important supplier of planting and forage seed to the South Korean market, garnering a 57% market share in 2003-04, up from 54% the previous season. Rye seed is the primary reason for the U.S. dominance of the market, argues the U.S. agricultural attache here. Unfortunately, 30% of the total exports of 3,200 MT of U.S. rye seed exported to Korea in 2004 were rejected by buyers on the grounds that it failed to meet contract specifications for absence of fungal contamination (Bipolaris specifera) and/or minimum germination rates of 80% when tested at the discharging port.
