U.S. to Flirt With Bean Trade DeficitVANCOUVER - Oct 15/04 - SNS -- The United States is flirting with the possibility of being a net importer of dry edible beans for the first time in memory on account of this year's disastrous harvest. August's devastating frost in North Dakota and Minnesota caused the USDA to predict bean output this year would total just 18.7 million bags or 847,886 metric tons (MT), making it the smallest crop since the 822,023 MT harvest of 1988 and the previous low of just 703,970 MT in 1983.
