Canada's Chickpeas Killed by FrostVANCOUVER - Oct 1/04 - SNS -- The week ended with a killing frost sweeping across most of Saskatchewan and Alberta, with temperatures sinking to between minus 6 and 11 Celcius in Saskatchewan and between minus 4 and 8 in Alberta. Of all pulses, western Canada's chickpeas had the largest percentage of standing crop at week's end. Last week started with just 6% in the bin and 8% in swath. At the end of September last year, the harvest was over 90% complete and half the remaining fields were swathed.
