Internet Could Fuel Productivity GrowthCANBERRA - Mar 6/02 - STAT -- Greater adoption of internet based technology could fuel a boom in productivity growth in the world's agriculture industry, suggests a study by Australia's Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources. Released at the ABARE outlook conference here, the report found while the internet could be a source of this type of growth, achieving the critical mass to gain network economic benefits was proving difficult. Lack of awareness and issues such as standards, interoperability directories, security, banking, broadband and e-logistics are impediments. Business Review Weekly Information Technology Editor, Brad Howarth, told delegates that while ebusiness is more difficult than people originally thought, it remains the most significant source of productivity growth for Australia.
