Organic Commodity Exchange Opens This AutumnLONDON - Mar 5/02 - STAT -- An organic produce commodity exchange is set to open this Autumn in London, providing a level playing field for all organic producers and farmers. Called The Ethical Exchange Management Company (TeemCo), the exchange will be the first of its kind in the world. TeemCo recently said that timber and fish exchanges could soon follow. "Our aim is to provide the Third World and other disadvantaged producers with a solid, commercial mechanism for being able to help themselves. This exchange provides a level playing field for the $30 billion plus organic food industry," TeemCo chairman John Lodge told Reuters. In order to participate in the exchange, farmers and producers must first become members, which allows them to hold a stake in TeemCo's ownership.
