Japan Finalizes eCommerce GuidelinesTOKYO - Mar 5/02 - STAT -- Japan hopes to finalize guidelines on how the country's Commercial Code and other laws will apply to eCommerce. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry says this process is necessary because eCommerce is developing faster than laws can be written and enacted. The current proposals have been developed in consultation with academics, consumer and business leaders; but will not be finalized until public opinion has been taken into account during the rest of March. The current proposals would allow Japanese consumers to cancel business transactions if their identity and passwords are stolen and used in online transactions at websites with lax security policies and measures.
