Special Crop Stocks Higher Than ExpectedOTTAWA - Sep 7/04 - SNS -- Season ending stocks for Canadian specialty crops were somewhat higher than expected, but with the exception of canaryseed they are not expected to attract much debate. In fact, given the problems afflicting the 2004 harvest, most processors and exporters are eager to see Statistics Canada come up with higher numbers now that prices for old crop specialty crops have improved. No where is this more true than lentils, where some industry participants had hoped to convince Statistics Canada through speeches and the news media that Canada had less than 20,000 metric tons (MT) on hand as of July 31.
