Limited Harvest Progress in CanadaREGINA - Sep 7/04 - SNS -- Specialty crop producers in Saskatchewan and Manitoba made limited progress harvesting this year's crops during the past week, disappointing processors and exporters, who were hoping to see a broader improvement in deliveries to help them assess yields and quality. Harvesting of all crops in Saskatchewan advanced to just 5% complete by September 5, well behind the five-year average of 41%, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture, Food and Rural Revitalization’s weekly crop report. In the case of specialty crops, this year's field pea harvest is now 23% complete, followed by lentils at 16%, mustard seed at 8% complete, and just 1% progress for chickpeas and canaryseed. Progress is well behind last year for all crops, but remains ahead of the slowest harvests in recent memory -- those of 1990 and 1991.
