Limited Harvest Progress in CanadaREGINA - Aug 23/04 - SNS -- This year's specialty crop harvest has fallen well behind normal in Saskatchewan, matching the slow pace established in 1992 and 1993 when significant harvest progress was not recorded until the middle of September. Harvesting of this year's field peas and lentils is barely underway in Saskatchewan, with just 8% and 5% of the crop in the bin, compared to 87% and 78% at this time last year. Another 11% of the peas and 14% of the lentils are in swath, compared to 9% and 12% respectively last year. The only other crops showing measurable harvest progress are mustard seed, with 2% of the crop in the bin and 10% in swath; fall rye, with just 28% harvested and another 27% swathed; and triticale, with 1% harvested and 10% swathed. No harvest activity has been recorded for chickpeas, canaryseed, sunflower or flaxseed. Subscribers can read the full text of the article by Clicking here
