Mushroom Sales Rise in 2003-04WASHINGTON - Aug 16/04 - SNS -- Mushroom sales in the United States rose 1% during the 2003-04 marketing year, totalling 857 million pounds, according to the latest USDA data. Value of sales for the 2003-04 U.S. mushroom crop is $920 million, up 3% from the previous season and 1% above the 2001-02 season. The number of growers, at 278, is up 13 from last season. Average price is $1.07 per pound, up 2 cents from 2002-03. Sales reported by growers of Agaricus mushrooms for fresh market are 701 million pounds, up 1% from last season. Sales of Agaricus mushrooms for processing are 143 million pounds, 3% above last season.
